Our firm has grown steadily since it was formed in 1994. Most of our staff trained with Anderson & Company, although we have also made some lateral hires. Our employees typically stay with us for many years.
We are interested in recruiting exceptional lawyers who wish to work in a small-firm environment, doing high-quality work for high-quality clients.
Our core areas of practice are technology transfer, intellectual property, commercial transactions and general business law advice. We expect to continue to grow our practice steadily in these areas in the coming years.
What we look for in trainees and newly-qualified lawyers
The qualities we look for (in no particular order) are:
- Exceptional intellectual ability, with a practical focus. We don't automatically disqualify candidates for less than perfect exam results (unlike some leading firms), but candidates must be capable of working convincingly with world-ranking scientists, business leaders and lawyers in other leading firms.
- Good drafting and analytical skills
- An engaging personality
- Preferably, a scientific background. Although not an essential requirement, several of our lawyers have science degrees and (in some cases) have worked in post-graduate scientific research.
- Preferably, some commercial experience
Experienced lawyers
We are also interested in hearing from experienced lawyers who have a client following and who work in our core areas or have complementary areas of practice; the latter category includes corporate finance lawyers, IP litigators and IP transactional lawyers in "soft" IP (eg entertainment). We are flexible about terms of remuneration and would consider arrangements based on fee income generated.
But please, only apply to us if you meet the above criteria and really want to work with us. Unfortunately we see too many mediocre CVs that have been sent to us on a speculative basis using a standard template, and where the candidate has no real interest in us as a firm.
